What we do and who can join

We are a parent run organisation dedicated to supporting all hearing impaired children, young deaf people and their families in overcoming the challenges of childhood deafness.

We provide knowledge, support and opportunities to empower deaf children to enjoy a happy fulfilled and rewarding life.

Through our affiliation with the National Deaf Children's Society we can support our members with information and contacts.

We are a registered charity so are governed by their rules and regulations.
The group has been established for at least twenty-five years. It was set up by parents in order to enable their children to meet other deaf children in their local area.

As many children now attend main stream schools or away at specialist boarding schools it is sometimes difficult for children to develop a deaf peer group.

The group also provides parents and siblings the opportunity to meet and exchange thoughts and information.

With regards to membership of a deaf parent with hearing children; The committee decided that it was happy for these families to join but we must not have more hearing children attending events than deaf children in particular with the play schemes which are funded by Reading Council for deaf children and their siblings.
